West Blocton completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region four, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. West Blocton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Handley by a score of 49-7. Since 2010, West Blocton has gone a combined 37-39. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, West Blocton has managed to compile a record of 109-155. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A and 272nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Eric Hiott who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at West Blocton. The Tigers saw improvement from a 5-6 record the season before coach Hiott arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hiott. The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Brookwood on Thursday, August 24 at Billy Joe Young Field. Last year the Brookwood Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 6A region four. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holt by a score of 50-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot. West Blocton and Brookwood have met a total of 68 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 36-29-3 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with West Blocton winning by a score of 32-20. West Blocton returns 4A All-State Senior running back Trey Underwood.
